daughter of Paul and Foz Burgoon of Iron Mountain. She has been a 4.00 student for
all four years of high school, has been a member of the National Honor Society for three
years, and is a four year Honor Roll member. Aziza has earned the Michigan
Technological University Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit and has been
recognized with the College Board National Rural & Small Town Award. While at Iron
Mountain High School, Aziza has been extremely active in clubs. She was a four year
member of Student Council, Key Club International, Tri-Hi-Y, and the Varsity Club. She
was also a founding member of the be nice. student led initiative to destigmatize mental
health and prevent bullying. Aziza sought leadership roles in these clubs serving as
student council vice president and then student council president, as well as Class
President this year and Key Club president. In addition to being academically excellent
and involved in the school community, Aziza is a highly motivated athlete. She
competed in varsity soccer and Girls 19U Tier II Travel Hockey all four years of high
school as well as being a varsity tennis member for three years. Aziza led by example
in sports as well, serving as Captain of the varsity soccer team her junior and senior
year. She has maintained her academic excellence and commitment to sports while
volunteering over 200 hours throughout the community and working part time in the
summer with the YMCA. Upon graduation from Iron Mountain High School, Aziza will be
attending the University of Michigan and plans to study Biomolecular Science.
The Salutatorian for the IMHS Class of 2023 is Emma Lou Elizabeth Ellis. Emma
is the daughter of Brad and Karen Ellis of Breitung Township. She has earned a place
on the Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters, is a three year member of IMHS
Honor Society, and became a member of the National Honor Society this year. While
at IMHS, she has been an extremely involved student athlete. Emma is a four year
member of varsity basketball where she served as the Captain all four years. She also
played volleyball all four years, serving as team Captain for three of those years. She
ran varsity track for three years, serving as team captain the last two years and played
varsity soccer for three years, where she served as team captain her junior year. Emma
has numerous athletic awards including: Basketball MVP, All UP Honorable mention –
basketball, Team Academic All State Award – Basketball, WestPac First team –
basketball, Mid Pen Second Team – basketball, and Mid Pen Second Team –
volleyball. She has also participated with clubs while at IMHS. She has been a two year
member of Varsity Club, serving as the Secretary this year. She also participated in Art
Club, Tri-Hi-Y Club, Key Club, and be nice. Outside of the classroom, Emma has been
actively involved in our local community volunteering at Overtime Youth basketball
clinics, working at Advanced Appraisals and babysitting. She will be attending Central
Michigan University where she plans to study Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
Ellison Marie Powell, daughter of Shannon and Jeff Powell, is ranked third
in the Class of 2023. While at Iron Mountain High School, she has earned a place on
the IMHS Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters as well as being a member of the
National Honor Society for three years, where she served as the Secretary this year.
Ellison was selected to serve as a MyLead representative for IMHS her sophomore
year, attending a leadership seminar at Michigan State University. She has been an
extremely active participant in student culture, serving as a four year member in Key
Club, Varsity Club, Tri-Hi-Y, Varsity Club and Student Council. Ellison wasn’t content to
just be a member in these clubs. She sought leadership positions, serving as Key Club
secretary her junior year and Student Council President, Key Club Vice President, and
Varsity Club President all in her senior year! She was also selected as Advanced
Chemistry Student of the Month and was a be nice. member. Additionally, Ellison has
been an excellent athlete, playing varsity basketball and varsity softball for all four
years, serving as softball Captain for two years. She also played volleyball for four
years, serving as team Captain for three of those years. Ellison received many athletic
accolades including First Team All -Conference, Second Team All-Conference and
Defensive Team All-Conference for volleyball, Second Team All-Conference and
Honorable Mention All-Conference for softball, Varsity Softball MVP and Second Team
All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-Conference for basketball. She has
acquired over 200 volunteer hours in the community and Ellison is active with her
church, participating in youth group and teaching CCD/Religious Education. Upon
graduation, Ellison will attend Albion College where she plans to study Pre-Law and
Journalism.
Elle-Anna Lofholm, daughter of Gary and Christie Lofholm of Breitung Township,
has earned the fourth spot in the top ten percent of the IMHS Class of 2023. Elle-Anna
has maintained honor roll status for seven consecutive semesters, was a member of the
IMHS Honor Society, and is a three year member of the National Honor Society. She
has been an active participant in school clubs including being a four year member of
Key Club, Varsity Club, and Tri-Hi-Y. Elle-Anna also served all four years on Student
Council, including as Treasurer this year. She was also selected as IMHS Student of the
Month. Elle-Anna was also involved in athletics at IMHS. She played varsity tennis for
four years. She also participated in Varsity Golf, Varsity Track and basketball. Elle-
Anna has also been a E-bar-D Equestrian Member for four years. In her free time, she
works as a barista at Edelweiss Coffee and a nanny. After graduation, Elle-Anna will
attend the University of Michigan where she plans to pursue a degree in Biology, Health
& Society.
Callie Anne Bianco of Iron Mountain, daughter of Donny and Patti Bianco of
Breitung Township, is the fifth highest ranking graduate from the Class of 2023. During
her career at Iron Mountain High School, Callie was extremely involved with both
athletics and school clubs and activities. Callie was a three year member of National
Honor Society, serving as President this year. She was also an IMHS honor roll
member for seven consecutive semesters. Callie was a four year member of Tri-Hi-Y,
Key Club, Varsity Club, and Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). She also served as a
member of Student Council for four years, serving as the Public Relations Officer this
year. Callie served in be nice. for two years, serving as the President this year. She
continually looked for leadership positions, serving as the Class Representative in Key
club for three years, Secretary of the Varsity Club last year and Co-Chair of YAC in 11 th
grade and Chair of YAC this year. In addition to all of her club involvement, Callie is an
outstanding athlete. She played Varsity basketball, Varsity tennis and Varsity soccer all
four years of high school. Just like her club involvement, Callie served as a leader in her
sports as well. She served as the soccer captain the last two years and basketball
captain this year. She has also been recognized in tennis this year as the DII Player of
the Year, Tennis MVP and the Individual U.P. Champ. Outside of school, Callie works
at Edelweiss Coffee. She will be attending the University of Michigan pursuing a degree
in Movement Science.
Olivia Rose Hansen, the daughter of Jesse and Shannon Hansen of
Kingsford, completes the top ten percent of the Class of 2023. She has been on the
Iron Mountain Honor Roll for four years, an IMHS Honor Society Member, and became
a National Honor Society member this year. She has participated in Tri-Hi-Y club,
Environmental Club and Art Club for three years. Olivia was an active member of
Drama Club this year. She is a talented vocalist who has participated in Solo Ensemble
the last two years, where she scored a 1 and a 2 at Districts for Vocals. She is an
active member of the community where she is involved in English Equestrian Riding,
overseas missions ministry at church, and volunteers at the church nursery and
vacation bible school. She also works part time at the Dickinson County Library. Olivia
will be attending St. Norbert College, where she plans to pursue a degree in Music
Performance and Music Education.
