Beginning with the 2018-19 school year, Iron Mountain schools has implemented a 1:1 chromebook program for grades 5-12. Technology is an important tool to unlock different learning opportunities for our students and we are thrilled to offer broader access to these resources.

Students in grades 5 & 6 will have an assigned device that stays in the classroom. Students in grades 7-12 will be assigned devices that can be taken home at the end of the school day. Students will keep the same device through 8th and 12th grades.

Students are expected to take care of their devices in accordance with the guidelines and policies set forth in the Chromebook Handbook and the Technology Acceptable Use Policy.

Students at North Elementary (grades EK-4) have access to shared chromebook carts, classroom iPads and a computer lab.

Chromebook FAQs

When do we pickup our chromebook?
Chromebooks will be distributed on August 21st during the picture day and schedule pickup. If you cannot pickup your chromebook at that time, chromebooks will be distributed on the first day of school to students have the signed form (digital or paper).

Will my student receive a new chromebook every year?
Students will receive new chromebooks at grades 5 and 9. Students will keep the same chromebook from grades 5-8 and 9-12.

When do we turn our chromebooks back in?
Chromebooks will be collected during the last week of school. Chromebooks, cases and chargers will be collected and inspected over the summer and will be distributed again in the fall.

My student received a used chromebook. Will we be responsible for pre-existing problems?
No, not at all. All used chromebooks have been inspected, cleaned and repaired prior to distribution. Our tech staff have documented any cosmetic defects that a chromebook has prior to being distributed and you will not be responsible for those issues. Since the issues were cosmetic in nature, they should not affect chromebook performance.

Are we responsible for ALL repairs?
No. Only repairs that are necessary because of neglect or abuse, not normal wear and tear. Examples: Keyboard keys coming off of keyboards is considered abuse. They do not fall off from normal use.  A battery draining much faster than it should or not holding a charge would be considered normal wear and tear and would be covered by the district.

What if my student forgets their chromebook at home?
If a teacher of any given period requires the student to use a chromebook, the student will receive a pass from the teacher to checkout a loaner device from the office for that period only. Loaner devices are only issued for an entire day in the case of extended repair timelines such as a device being sent to the manufacturer for warranty repair.

Does the chromebook really have to stay in the case all the time?
Absolutely. The cases provide protection against most wear and tear to the device and should never be removed unless by a teacher or member of the tech staff.

We don't want our student to have a take-home chromebook. What are our options?
They will need to checkout a loaner chromebook from the office to use for the day and check it back in at the end of the school day. Students will be responsible for the care of the device during this time.  Other arrangements are possible but must be arranged with Mr. Traber.

Are the chromebooks filtered at home?
Yes. The devices are filtered no matter where they are used.

What should we do if our chromebook is broken?
Bring it to the school office and a member of our tech staff will assess the chromebook and take proper steps for repair. NEVER take the device to an outside company for repair.
