Iron Mountain High School senior athletes were celebrated for their athletic accomplishments during their time at Iron Mountain High School at the annual Senior Athletic Award Banquet held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Throughout the night, coaches and administrators expressed how the Class of 2023 would be remembered for years to come as not only being amazing athletes who brought multiple titles and honors to the school and district, but for their dedication to their studies and love they bring to their teams and community.
Most Valuable Player honors were presented to student-athletes by Iron Mountain High School coaches for Mountaineer sports, including Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Golf, and Track. A full list of MVP honorees are included below. All athletes were presented with a Senior Athlete Plaque, thanks to the Iron Mountain Athletic Booster Club.
Iron Mountain Public Schools Superintendent and Athletic Director, Jerry Sardina presented student athletes Anja Kleiman and Brett Ramme with the distinguished Pat Izzo Memorial Award. The Pat Izzo Memorial Award is awarded to those who display sportsmanship, school spirit, character, desire, and leadership. It honors students who, although maybe not the star athlete, are always there with a smile, rooting on their team, motivating others and leading with integrity. The Award is in memory of the late Pat Izzo, a Mountaineer who left us too soon. Anja’s and Brett’s names have been added to the list of awardees on the Pat Izzo Memorial Award plaque that hangs in the Izzo-Mariucci Building.
Student athletes, Ellison Powell and Joey Colavecchi were presented by Superintendent Jerry Sardina with the prestigious Izzo-Mariucci Scholarship Award. The Izzo-Mariucci Scholarship award is a $5,000 scholarship awarded to Iron Mountain senior student athletes who aspire to be in a lettered sport (or club sport) at the college or university level, who demonstrate qualities of good sportsmanship and high moral character, and have participated in a multiple high school sports. Ellison’s and Joey’s names have been added to the list of awardees on the Izzo-Mariucci trophy that is displayed in the Izzo-Mariucci Building.
