Iron Mountain High School’s annual induction ceremony for the National Honor Society was on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. A total of thirteen students were inducted into the school’s chapter.
To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25. Additionally, candidates must meet high standards of service, leadership, and character. Leadership is based on the student’s participation in two or more community or school activities, or election to an office. To meet the service requirement, the student must have been active in three or more service projects in the school and community. Character is measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation with both students and faculty. Students are reviewed by a faculty council consisting of five members of the faculty appointed by the principal. As members of NHS, these students will now engage in a number of individual and chapter service projects. NHS is the nation’s oldest and best-known student recognition program and was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Fulton plans to study Accounting. Fulton has been wrestling since he was four years old. During his time at IMHS, Fulton played football and wrestled all four years. He is a four-time State Qualifier, two-time State Runner-Up, and also a UP Champion. Fulton was named to the Michigan Grappler Division 4 All-Senior team, alongside teammate Alex Wilson. Fulton applied to multiple schools, but felt like Lakeland was a “good fit.” Fulton’s mother, father/coach, Carrie and Brandon Stroud and brother Parker Stroud attended the signing celebration, along with 2024 Iron Mountain Wrestling Coach Cory McLaren and Devin Farragh. Iron Mountain Athletic Director, Brad Perry and multiple friends were also in attendance. Smiles on Wheels is visiting North Elementary this week. They offer no cost dental assessments, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants and education. Their services are no cost, however there is a space for parents to add their insurance if they have it. Then the insurance will be billed, like in the case of medicaid. A signup form was sent home. If you need another copy, please contact the North Elementary School office at 906-779-2626. Our students were awarded over $120,000 in IMHS and DACF scholarships and over $570,000 in college scholarships Wednesday night at the annual Scholarship Award Ceremony! Congratulations to our scholarship recipients! We are so proud of each and every one of you. Thank you to the Dickinson Area Community Foundation for their continued partnership and support and to all the guests who presented scholarships at the ceremony! Congratulations, Class of 2024! Iron Mountain High School is proud to announce that senior Alex Wilson, son of Jennifer Geneva, signed his National Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Muskies at Division III Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Alex plans to major in Business and Marketing. Alex has been wrestling since the age of five. During his time wrestling at IMHS, he was a three-time qualifier in multiple weight brackets at Individual State Finals, two years of which were on the podium. He is also a three-time wrestling UP Champion in multiple weight classes. During his time at IMHS, Alex participated in tennis, travel soccer, varsity boys soccer, YAC, Varsity Club, Key Club, and National Honor Society. Alex received high honors all four years of high school, and was awarded Individual Academic All-State honors as well. He will continue staying busy, as he is hoping to play soccer for Lakeland beginning his sophomore year in addition to wrestling. He had multiple schools reach out, but Lakeland has a very “positive coach” and the college “felt like home,” Alex said. Alex's mother, Jennifer Geneva and Jared Buchanen of Iron Mountain attended the signing celebration, along with Iron Mountain Varsity Wrestling Coach, Cory McLaren and Wrestling Coach Brandon Stroud. Iron Mountain Athletic Director, Brad Perry and multiple family members and friends were also in attendance. |
