Nationally recognized children’s author, Jonathan Rand visited North Elementary School today, April 26. Jonathan Rand is best known for his “American Chillers” and “Michigan Chillers” series! The visitor spoke with EK-4th grade students about the importance of reading and writing, and shared his experiences with his career as an author. Jonathan has presented to tens of thousands of students around the US and we had a great time with him today! The author explained to the students in his presentation, “Reading is not something you do, it is somewhere you visit,” comparing book covers to doors into another place with infinite adventures. He encouraged students to think of their pencil as a “magic wand” they can create magical words with. Third grade student, Ema Asanuma, sang a song for Mr. Rand following the assembly that she wrote about North Elementary School! Mr. Rand was impressed with her writing skills and encouraged her to keep up with her writing. Students had the opportunity to purchase autographed copies of the author’s Michigan Chillers and American Chillers book series leading up to the event. Read more about Author Jonathan Rand here: https://www.americanchillers.com/index.php/author-info Thank you! Dear Parents and Guardians,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. We value input from our community – and we need to hear from your child or children! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for everyone. In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback through online surveys they will be completing at school. The surveys shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to complete. We are asking that our third through twelfth grade students participate in the surveys during school hours, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences, so we can improve our district and help support their individual needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys. The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on their overall experience of school and their perception of their own self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, emotion regulation, and supportive relationships. Please notify us by Monday, May 1 if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by contacting Allison Cevigney. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (906)779-2610 ext. 4815 or cevigneya@imschools.org. We are also currently surveying all Iron Mountain Public School families in order to gain insight into your perception of our school and district effectiveness. To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. Please complete the anonymous school/school safety survey relating to your student’s school(s) below before May 17, 2023: Link: https://surveys.panoramaed.com/dickinsoniron North Elementary (EK-4) code: 4311700517 East Elementary (5-6) code: 8071325954 Central Middle School (7-8) code: 4154482243 Iron Mountain High School (9-12) code: 6191237136 Sincerely, Allison Cevigney School Success Coach If you have trouble viewing the above text, please download letter below: The Iron Mountain Public Schools Drama Department will perform “The Day the Internet Died”, a short comedy written by Jason Pizzarello and Ian McWethy in the Iron Mountain High School Auditorium on Thursday April 27, 2023 at 7:00 PM. There will be additional performances at 7:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2023 and at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
Tickets can be purchased before each performance for $10.00 or $7.00 for students. “The Day the Internet Died” takes place in the town of Bloomington when a devastating occurrence happens. No, it’s not famine, or floods, or loss of your basic rights. The internet has gone down! And it will continue to be down! For a week! A whole week! Pandemonium! In a world that is so dependent on the internet for shopping, mailing, and posting pictures of cute babies, how will society function? Not well as it turns out. The Day the Internet Died hilariously explores how inept we are at dating, research, and basic human interactions when we don’t have a screen to look at. The IMPS Drama Department primarily consists of students in grades 7-12, but has cast members as young as kindergarten! This Spring’s performance follows the Drama Department’s Winter performance of “Carol vs. Christmas”. Ashley Spade, grade 10, is cast as “Sheriff Patricia”, and says those in attendance can “look forward to big laughs” and has loved working with advisor, Linda Carpenter. “She is amazing!” Carpenter was hired as the district’s Drama Department advisor last spring and has helped the program grow from the ground up.
