Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are seeing an increased number of students with conjunctivitis or “pink eye” at school. Pink eye is an inflammation of the inside of the eyelid (conjunctiva) and the white part of the eyeball. This inflammation makes blood vessels more visible and gives the eye a pink or reddish color. Please watch your child for the following symptoms. If your child has the symptoms below, you should call your child’s healthcare provider for guidance. · Redness or swelling of the white of the eye or inside the eyelids · An increased amount of tears · Eye discharge which may be clear, yellow, white, or green · Itchy, irritated, and/or burning eyes · Gritty feeling in the eye · Crusting of the eyelids or lashes · Contact lenses that feel uncomfortable and/or do not stay in place on the eye There are four main causes of pink eye. Sometimes it is hard to know the exact cause of pink eye because some signs and symptoms may be the same no matter the cause.
Treatment depends on the reason for conjunctivitis (bacterial, viral or allergic). It is important to talk with your child’s healthcare provider (doctor, physician’s assistant, or nurse) so they can tell you if your child may need medicine or stay home from school. Pink eye is spread from person to person in different ways. It is usually spread through:
Washing your hands, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and not sharing food and drinks with others can help control the spread of pink eye. Antibiotics do not help pink eye unless it is caused by bacteria. Whether or not your child needs medicine for pink eye is up to your doctor. Information from the CDC about Pink Eye is attached. Please call the school’s Office if you have any questions or concerns. This morning, March 28, 2023, the school was notified that last night there was a threat made to another student and that harm would be taking place at the 5-12 Building. All involved were located. Law enforcement is speaking with the students and parents involved in the matter. There are no threats to the school or students. The school is conducting school as usual. The matter is under control and there is no cause for alarm. Thank you, Amy Galvan 5-12th Principal Iron Mountain Public Schools Dear Parent/Guardians of eighth grade Mountaineers,
There will be an eighth grade parent meeting on Wednesday, March 29th at 6 PM in the Izzo-Mariucci Commons Area to discuss the 8th grade trip to Great America and fundraising opportunities. Any 8th grade parent interested in helping out or discussing detail of the trip, please attend. Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Haferkorn at haferkorn@imschools.org or 906-779-2620. Thank you. Dear English 12 Students and Parents:
Iron Mountain High School has the unique graduation requirements of creating a resume, participating in a mock interview, as well as writing a follow-up thank you note. In conjunction with our commitment to preparing students for future employment, we have been fortunate to secure several businessmen and businesswomen who specialize in interviewing prospective employees. These businessmen/women will volunteer their time to give senior students a mock interview. In addition, Mr. Celello has included this assignment in his English 12 classes so that students will receive credit for the experience. On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, students will be participating in a mock interview at Iron Mountain High School where students will be evaluated on their performance. Students will also be attending breakout sessions pertaining to life after high school. Students will be given copies of materials designed to assist them with their resume and upcoming mock interview. Many lessons will be taught in English 12 to create a resume and prepare our students for their interviews. Students who are not in an English 12 class this year must pick up the following handouts from Mr. Celello and show up for their mock interview scheduled time. · Resume examples · Thank you note assignment · Tips on interviewing · An interview report form on which students will be evaluated Students will need to write a perfect resume, complete a mock interview at IMHS, complete the assignment, and compose a follow-up thank you note using proper business format. If you are unable to participate in your mock interview on April 12 th , you will be expected to contact Mr. Jerry Sardina, Superintendent of the Iron Mountain Public Schools, and arrange a time for your make-up interview. Mr. Sardina may be reached at 779-2600. This “make-up” interview needs to happen prior to April 12 th , with all the “make-up” paperwork submitted to Mr. Celello by April 12 th . Failure to meet these deadlines would, unfortunately, result in a zero for this assignment. If you are absent on April 12th, please follow the same instructions—you will have until April 19th to complete your “make-up” interview. We are very excited about this opportunity and are convinced it will be very beneficial to you when you find yourself in future interviews. We are certain this will be a valuable learning tool for all of you! Sincerely, Marcus Celello and Amy Pietrantonio Iron Mountain High School Please join us for Meet the Mountaineers on:

The Iron Mountain Middle School Band will be participating in the Wisconsin State Music Association district concert festival on Wednesday, March 15th, at Norway High School. The event will be held in the NHS Performing Arts Center. The Iron Mountain Middle School band is scheduled to perform at 2:05 P.M. We are scheduled to warm up in the NHS band room at 1:35 P.M. We will be taking a school bus to and from this event, and we will be leaving at 1:00 P.M. from IMHS. There is no school for students that day, so students will need to be at the IMHS band room by 12:30 p.m. They will return to Iron Mountain by bus at approximately 3:00 P.M. Students will need a ride from the school at this time. If you are coming to watch the festival performance and would like to take your child home with you afterwards, please let me know in advance. All students need to wear black pants, black shoes, black socks, and a nice white shirt (no T-shirts) for this performance.
