Congratulations, Mountaineers!

Thursday night, Iron Mountain High School scholars in grades 9 through 12 were awarded at the annual Honors Celebration, held at the High School Auditorium. Over Mountaineer 100 students were honored for academic excellence and $51,649 in scholarships were awarded last night! Additional scholarships will be presented at Awards Day and Graduation. Mrs. Kylee Curry-Backlund also presented graduation chords to senior members of the National Honor Society.

We were honored to have an IMHS Alumni as our guest speaker, Mr. Jeff Harry. Jeff Harry graduated as a Mountaineer in 1984 and played five years of football at NMU, including the 1987 GLIAC Conference Champ and National Semifinalist team.  He became an educator and taught for 31 and ½ years, including stints at both IMHS and KHS where he also coached football, basketball, wrestling and track.  Jeff retired in 2021 and currently works as a real estate agent for Leeds Real estate, while continuing to be active in our community refereeing volleyball and basketball and volunteering as assistant coach with the Flivver JV football team.  Jeff is married to Lisa and they have three sons.  We are proud to count him as a Mountaineer. Thank you!

Thank you to Mrs. Tamara Juul of the Dickinson Area Community Foundation for attending our Celebration and presenting seven local scholarships and for their continued support of our Mountaineer students. Thank you to Mrs. Sandi Lefebvre, of Dickinson Area Community Foundation, who presented the James R. Petroff Scholarship.

Thank you to Mr. Ed Williams, Mrs. Sandy Sullivan, and the IMHS Choir for their beautiful performance of the Iron Mountain Alma Mater song, and of the song “Friends” by Michael W. Smith.

Thank you to the Academic Booster Club and to President Russ Kassin for presenting the annual raffle drawing of gift cards to our deserving students!
