2007-2008 Reading Olympics

Dear Parents:
This year our school district will again be running a program called the Reading Olympics. This is a reading competition that sets 3rd and 4th grade students in one competition, 5th and 6th grade students in a second competition, and 7th and 8th grade in a third competition. Those students that qualify will be put on a team of three students to compete against other teams from our school. The winning local team will be the last team standing in the championship round which will take place the week of March 31st – April 4th, 2008. The winner from the three divisions will then move on to a regional competition against championship teams from other local school districts on April 15th, 2008, at Kingsford.
The students will be given a list of 25 books. They must read at least 7 or these books by the week of January 14th to qualify to be placed on a team. Upon completing each book, students are required to fill out a page in their Reading Olympic Journal that will be supplied by our school. This journal will help them to recall details or all the books and prepare for the competition in the spring.
We are very excited about this program. Please encourage your child to participate. The books on the attached list are available at the school libraries, some teachers’ classroom libraries, the public library, or can be ordered through the area bookstores.

of this page, complete it, and then return it to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Upon returning this form your child will be given a Reading Olympic
Journal. The deadline for turning this note in is Wednesday,
November 14th.
