General Information DRESS & APPEARANCE Students are expected to be clean and neatly dressed. Good habits of cleanliness and good health dictate that all students shall wear proper clothing at all times in school. Wearing of clothing which displays or advertises tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sex, foul language, or gang insignia is not permitted. Appropriate school clothing should be worn during the school day. FIRE AND EMERGENCY DRILLS Students should be familiar with the fire drill route from each of their classrooms. The route will be posted near the door of each classroom. During a fire drill everyone should walk quickly and quietly to their exit and stay as a group outside until informed to reenter. RESPECT FOR AND CARE OF PROPERTY Ability to handle one's property and the property of others is essential to good citizenship. It is expected that our students will care for and refrain from defacement of school property. The building furniture, books, and other property in our building are provided for our use through taxes paid by your parents. Unnecessary waste tends to raise costs through needed replacements. A penalty will be given to any person known to be guilty of defacing property in any manner. We should strive to keep our school as clean as possible. This can best be done by having everyone assume his or her share of the responsibility for cleanliness. Scotch tape is not to be used on walls or other painted surfaces. Leave no wastepaper in or on the desks. Keep the floor clean of wastepaper, writing on desks is unnecessary. Students responsible will clean whatever desks suggested by the teacher and the principal. TEXTBOOKS If a student loses a textbook, he is required to pay for the replacement of a new text. Refunds will be given if the book is found & returned to the office. Fines up to $20.00 will be assessed per book for damages. REPORT CARDS Report cards are a substitute for a personal interview with our parents. It is but one way to keep parents informed of student's progress in school and will be issued four times during the year. Parents of elementary students are asked to examine the report card carefully, sign it, and return it as soon as possible. PARENT CONFERENCES Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled twice during the school year. If at any time you wish to arrange a conference time, please phone the school office and make arrangements. Feel free to call the school if you should have a question and/or concern at anytime during the school year. VISITORS Parents are always welcome to visit. An appointment to confer with a teacher during his/her consultation period can be made by telephoning the school office. For the protection of students, school property and order, no unauthorized persons shall be allowed to loiter on or adjacent to the school grounds or in any buildings. Students under suspension or who have been expelled are not allowed on school property, in any school building or admitted to any school function. All visitors should report directly to the Principal's Office. All persons must, upon request, identify themselves to proper school authorities when in the building, on school grounds or at school sponsored events. SCHOOL NEIGHBORS Students are asked to treat our school neighbors with respect, and refrain from littering or loitering near the homes of school neighbors. Students are responsible for the care of their own property as well as the property assigned to them. Under no condition should money or any article of value be left anywhere in the building especially in locker rooms. People are generally honest, but there is an occasional person who cannot be trusted to leave the belongings of others alone. The school will not assume responsibility for stolen or lost articles. BICYCLE POLICY Students in grades 3-5 are allowed to ride their bikes to school after returning a signed permission slip to the office. Bikes must be parked in the bike rack on the north side of the school/across from the front doors of the school. Students are not to ride bikes during school hours. It is suggested that students lock their bikes. The school is not responsible for lost or damaged bikes. SCHOOL PARTIES There are five scheduled class parties each year; Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter. Parents will be contacted by a homeroom parent to help with these parties. Birthday treats are permissible if you would like to send them. Please keep the treats simple and inexpensive. If your child has a summer birthday and you would like to send a treat, please make plans with the teacher. ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS This year we will have assembly programs with guest artists. We will expect our students to show respect to these guests and to behave as ladies and gentlemen. Appreciation is shown by applause. Whistling shows bad manners and is discouraged. Students are assigned a section in the High School Auditorium by classroom and the classroom teacher takes attendance. Our students will be bussed to any scheduled programs. USE OF TELEPHONES Office telephones are business telephones. Please do not ask to use them unless absolutely necessary. BUILDING LEAVES Anyone who has a satisfactory reason for leaving the building must obtain permission from the office. The office must receive a note or a phone call from a parent or guardian to write a building pass. Upon return from an appointment, students must stop back in the office to inform the office staff. Parents are asked to stop by the office and sign their student out on the school sign-out sheet. If a student becomes ill during the school day and finds it necessary to go home, he/she must have permission from parents and be signed out by the parent before leaving the building. |
