Basic Skills

Choosing a Background
Click on Edit
Choose Erase Background
Select a color (light colors are better backgrounds)
Click OK

Creating Borders
Click Options
Select Line size
Choose a thickness
Click OK
click Colors
Select a color (black)
Click Tools
Select the solid box (under the eraser)
Position cursor (shaped like a +) in top left hand corner
Click & Drag cursor to bottom right hand corner
Release mouse
(If you are not satisfied with the border, click on Edit and Select Undo Painting.  Try Again!)

Adding Text
Click Options 
Select Text Style
Choose:
     Font style
     Font size
     Text color - The darker colors the better for text.
Click OK
(This can also be done by double clicking on the "T" in your tool box.)
Place cursor on the screen where you would like the text


Moving Text
Click on Tools
Select the dotted rectangle
Click & Drag a rectangle around the title (similar to making a border)
Click directly on the title
Drag the title to where you want it on your screen or press the delete key to remove


Adding Clip Art
Click on File
Select Add Clip Art
Answer OK
Choose a picture file
Click OK
Click on the rope
Click & Drag to draw a line around a picture
Click on OK
The "marching ants" around your picture mean you can move it similar to moving text - Click & Drag
Click outside the "marching ants" to permanently place the picture on your screen.
(Only when you have the "marching ants" can you work with a picture - move, delete, or resize.)

Resize a Picture
Click Edit 
Select Effects
Select Scale 
Type in the number 50 (This will make your picture 1/2 the original size)
Click OK

Adding a Visible Button (w/sound)
Click on Objects
Select Add a Button
Click on the first box (rounded rectangle) under Type
Choose a Name Color (remember to choose a dark color)
Choose a Background Color (lighter colors look best)
Type in a name for the button 
Click on OK
You will have "marching ants" around the button.  Click & Drag it to where you want it on your screen.
Click outside your button
On the Actions side of the box, tell your button where to go.
Choose a transition you like and Click OK
On the other side of the box, choose Play a Sound.
Select a sound
Click OK
Click Done

Editing Buttons
If a button is not working or wish to change it in some way, you need to use your "Button Editing Tool," the B on the top row of your tool box.
Click on the B on your tool box
(If you need to delete the button, you can do so by clicking on the "B" of your tools, clicking on the button to get the marching ants", and finally pressing the delete key.
Double Click on your button.
You may make changes in appearance at the Button Appearance screen or click on the Actions to add sound or change where your button goes.

Recording a Sound
You must have a microphone plugged into the jack on the back of your computer.
Create a button using the steps followed earlier.  When you get to the Actions screen under Things to Do, select Play a sound.
Click on the Record button and speck into the microphone.
Click on Stop.
Click on Play and adjust the Volume
OK
Done

Adding a Text Object
Choose Objects from the Menu bar
Click on Add a Text Object
OK
Place the "marching ants" in the position on your card where you wish to have your text.  (You can also size the text box the same as if you were working with a graphic.)
Click outside the "marching ants" to place the text box.
Name your text box.
OK
Done
Type your text in the box

Importing Internet Pictures
Minimize Hyperstudio
Start the Internet
Locate the graphic you would like
Right click on the image
Copy to clipboard or save image to your h drive
Exit Internet
Maximize Hyperstudio
If you used the Copy feature, you can now Edit-Paste.  If you saved image to your h drive, File-Add clip art
Select h drive
Click on image
Open 
Follow the same procedure for adding clipart
